Legacy Shores Road Repair

Legacy Shores was an abandoned project that was a victim of the 2008 recession.  The prior developer had nearly completed the major infrastructure just as the credit crunch shut down the project.  Rackley Engineering was hired by a new developer during the pre-acquisition stage to assist in determining a cost to complete and take the home-sites to market.

During the cleanup of the property, an issue developed in one location of the roadway.  It turned out to be a location of rock that was evidently decided mid-process not to remove.  The original construction operation drilled and dynamited the rock, but left the ‘shot’ rock in place and constructed the road at a higher elevation.  The road being left high in this location would not have been a problem, building a road on unstable ‘shot’ rock is.  The solution was to remove the fragmented rock down to a depth adequate for engineered fill material to be placed and support the roadway.
